Apple Recipes for Fall and Beyond

These apple recipes make the most of one of fall’s favorite ingredients, with ideas for breakfast, desserts, drinks, and even a few savory dishes. Apparently the minute the calendar hints at fall, we’re all required to start adding apples and cinnamon to everything. We don’t make the rules—we just showed up with the apple cake and cocktails.

🍎 Apple Recipes for Breakfast

Apple season can absolutely start before noon. These breakfast recipes range from grab-and-go oats and smoothies to cinnamon rolls and donuts for mornings when yogurt just isn’t going to cut it.

Apple Cinnamon roll Bake

Apple Cinnamon Roll Bake

Canned cinnamon rolls and apple pie filling make this an easy shortcut breakfast with plenty of cinnamon-apple goodness. It’s a good one for brunch or a lazy weekend morning when nobody is volunteering to make breakfast from scratch.

Apple Peanut Butter Overnight Oats

Fresh apples, peanut butter, and oats make a quick make-ahead breakfast you can pull straight from the fridge. Prep it the night before and congratulate yesterday-you for having your act together.

Apple Cinnamon Smoothie

Fresh apple, cinnamon, yogurt, and a little maple syrup turn into a creamy smoothie in about five minutes. Add protein powder if you want a little more staying power.

Apple Spice Donuts

These baked apple donuts start with spice cake mix and apple pie filling because we have nothing to prove. They’re soft, full of warm fall flavor, and considerably easier than breaking out the deep fryer before coffee.

🍰 Apple Desserts & Sweet Treats

Apples and dessert have been carrying fall on their backs for generations, and we see no reason to interfere. These recipes cover everything from warm fruit and cake to a chocolate-caramel treat that requires absolutely no baking.

Apple Pear Crumble

Apple Pear Crumble

Fresh apples and pears get topped with a buttery cinnamon crumble for a warm, cozy dessert that practically begs for a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Dried cranberries add a little tartness, and there’s a gluten-free topping option too.

Slow Cooker Cinnamon Streusel Apples

Tender cinnamon apples cook low and slow under a buttery streusel topping. Serve them warm on their own or add whipped cream or ice cream because we’re adults and nobody can stop us.

Apple Walnut Cake

Apples, walnuts, and warm spices make this simple cake feel right at home during apple season. Use fresh apples or take the shortcut with canned apple pie filling—we’re not checking receipts.

Apple Caramel Chocolate Bark

Tart green apples, pretzels, chocolate, and caramel cover all the important food groups. It’s a no-bake treat with plenty of sweet, salty, crunchy goodness and absolutely no need to turn on the oven.

🍸 Apple Cocktails for Fall

Apparently apples need a happy hour, too. These fall cocktails bring the apple flavor without requiring you to simmer cider on the stove while wearing a cable-knit sweater.

Apple Cider Spritz

Apple cider and sparkling wine make this ridiculously simple two-minute cocktail. It’s crisp, bubbly, and just festive enough without turning happy hour into a whole production.

Sour Apple Margarita

Sweet, tart, and unapologetically green, this sour apple margarita brings tequila and sour apple flavor together in one very fun cocktail. It works for fall and Halloween, then gets called back into service for St. Patrick’s Day because apparently being green is a year-round career.

Apple Spice Martini

Apple-infused whiskey, warm spices, and allspice dram give this martini plenty of fall flavor without tasting like a candle smells. Shake it up, pour it into a chilled glass, and call it apple season.

Spiked Caramel Cider

Apple cider and caramel vodka are all you need for this two-ingredient batch cocktail. Serve it warm or over ice, depending on whether it’s actually fall outside or just fall according to the calendar.

🥣 Savory Apple Recipes

Apples don’t have to spend all of fall covered in cinnamon and caramel. Their sweetness and tartness work just as well in savory dishes, whether they’re paired with pork, blended into a cozy soup, or adding crunch to chicken salad.

Autumn Slow Cooker Pork Loin

Pork loin cooks low and slow with fresh apple, cranberries, apple cider, Dijon, and honey for a dinner that leans into fall without requiring you to decorate the house with tiny pumpkins first.

Slow Cooker Butternut Squash & Crisp Apple Soup

Butternut squash and tart apple cook low and slow with carrots, onion, and warm spices for a smooth, cozy soup. The apple adds just enough sweetness and brightness without turning dinner into dessert.

Chicken Salad with Apples

Crisp apples add a little sweetness and crunch to this creamy chicken salad with celery, dried cranberries, and almonds. Serve it on bread, in a wrap, or straight from the bowl while standing in front of the refrigerator. No judgment here.

🍏 Which Apples Should You Use?

The good news is you don’t need a degree in apples to make any of these recipes. Different varieties bring different levels of sweetness, tartness, and crunch, but there’s usually more than one good choice.

For baking: Choose a firm apple that won’t completely fall apart as it cooks. Granny Smith is a reliable choice when you want a tart flavor, while Honeycrisp adds more sweetness and still holds up well.

For salads and other fresh recipes: Crisp apples are your friend. Honeycrisp, Pink Lady, Fuji, or Granny Smith all add plenty of crunch, so use whichever flavor you prefer.

For smoothies and overnight oats: Don’t overthink it. If you like eating the apple, chances are you’ll like it here, too. Sweeter varieties such as Fuji or Gala work well without adding much extra sweetness.

And if a recipe calls for a specific variety, start there. Otherwise, use what you like, what looks good at the store, or what’s already sitting in the fruit bowl. We’re making apple recipes, not taking an exam.
