Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Preheat the oven to 350°F. Add the apple pie filling to a food processor and blend until smooth. You can also mash it thoroughly with a fork. In a large bowl, use an electric mixer to combine the spice cake mix and puréed apple filling.

Step 2: Generously coat two full-size silicone donut pans with nonstick cooking spray. Spoon or pipe the batter into the cavities, filling each one about ⅔ full.

Bake for 13-17 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of a donut comes out clean. Because ovens vary, begin checking the donuts before the end of the suggested baking time.

Let the donuts cool in the molds for 5–10 minutes before carefully removing them. Transfer them to a wire rack to finish cooling.

Step 3: While the donuts cool, whisk the powdered sugar, milk and vanilla extract in a small bowl until smooth. Add a little more milk if needed to reach your preferred consistency. Dip or drizzle the glaze over the cooled donuts.

🍋 Simply Made Tips

  • Don’t overfill the molds. Fill each silicone donut cavity about 2/3 full, leaving room for the donuts to rise as they bake.
  • A piping bag or zip-top bag with one corner snipped off makes filling the molds much easier and less messy.
  • If you accidentally add too much batter, it may bake over the center opening and create a thin layer of crust. No big deal—once the donuts have cooled, carefully trim away the excess with a sharp knife.
