Simple Guacamole

Somewhere along the way, guacamole recipes started getting a little carried away. This one keeps it simple with ripe avocados, fresh ingredients, and a few kitchen staples—no mystery seasoning packets or ingredients you’ll buy once and never use again. Grab the tortilla chips, spoon it onto tacos, or serve it alongside your favorite Mexican dishes like our beef flautas or steak fajitas.

Ingredients:

  • 4 avocados
  • ½ large red onion
  • 3 garlic cloves
  • 2 plum tomatoes (roma)
  • 1-2 jalapeños (1 for mild, 2 for hot)
  • ¼ cup cilantro
  • juice of 1 lime (or 2 oz. lime juice)
  • salt to taste

Step-by-Step Directions:

Step 1: Begin by finely dicing the red onion, jalapeño (seeds removed), and tomatoes, and mincing the garlic. Then, finely chop the cilantro.

Step 2: Cut open the avocados by slicing through the long side all the way around, then twist them to open the two halves. Carefully remove the pit and scoop insides into a bowl. Use a potato masher or fork to mash the avocados into desired size chunks.

Step 3: Add everything from step 1 to the avocados and stir to combine. Squeeze the juice of 1 lime (or add 2 Tbsp of bottled lime juice) into the guacamole and a bit of salt. Taste the guacamole. Add a bit more salt, lime juice or cilantro to taste. Serve immediately or follow our storage tips below. Enjoy!

Simply Made Storage Tips:

  • Preserve guacamole by storing in an airtight container. Smooth the top down and gently press plastic wrap over the top. You can also add a layer of water over the plastic wrap to help block out air. Keep in the refrigerator and pour the water off when ready to eat.
