🍻Why Beer Works in Biscuits

Beer does more than add flavor-it also helps create a light, tender biscuit. As the beer bakes, its carbonation helps give the biscuits a little lift while the liquid keeps the dough moist. The result is fluffy, buttery drop biscuits with very little effort. Don’t worry, though—they won’t have an overpowering beer flavor.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups Bisquick Pancake and Baking Mix
  • 3/4 cup beer

Simply Made Suggestions:

  • Enjoy them warm. These Bisquick Beer Drop Biscuits are at their best fresh from the oven while they’re still warm and tender.
  • Customize the cheese. The shredded cheddar is optional and adds a little extra flavor. Use up to 1 cup if you prefer cheesier biscuits, or leave it out altogether.
  • Add your favorite toppings. Serve warm with butter, honey, or your favorite jam.
  • Change up the flavor. Stir in 1 teaspoon of your favorite seasoning blend, like Italian seasoning or Cajun seasoning, for an easy twist.

Step-by-Step Directions:

Step 1: Preheat your oven to 425º F. Add Bisquick to a large mixing bowl with the shredded cheese, if using. Pour in the beer and 4 tablespoons of the melted butter. Stir with a spatula until all of the ingredients are combined.

Step 2: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Drop the prepared biscuit dough by large spoonfuls onto the baking sheet. Leave a couple of inches between each one. You should have 8-10 biscuits depending on how large your spoonfuls are.

Step 3: Bake in the preheated oven for about 15 minutes, or until browned and cooked through. Carefully remove the sheet from the oven and brush the tops of the warm biscuits with the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter and enjoy!

Choosing the Best Beer:

A light lager or pilsner is a great choice if you want classic, mild-flavored biscuits. Amber ales add a slightly richer flavor, while darker beers create a more robust, malty biscuit. If you prefer to skip the alcohol, a non-alcoholic beer works well, too. No matter which you choose, you’ll end up with tender, flavorful biscuits that pair perfectly with soups, chili, barbecue, and other comfort food favorites.
