Simple Margherita Pizza

As my kids embarked on their exciting college adventure and began living independently, they craved easy, tasty, and budget-savvy weeknight meals. That’s when our Simple Margherita Pizza recipe came into play! By using naan or pita bread instead of traditional pizza dough, whipping up dinner became a delightful experience. For an extra treat, they can toss on some sliced deli meat. It’s such a delicious and convenient option that they adore!

Ingredients:

  • can of hand crushed San Marzano tomatoes
  • roma tomato-thinly sliced
  • olive oil
  • naan or pita bread
  • fresh pre-sliced mozzarella cheese
  • fresh basil leaves or dried oregano
  • red pepper flakes

Step 1: Preheat oven to 400° F. Spread 2-3 Tbsp of the hand-crushed San Marzano tomatoes onto the naan or pita bread.

Step 2: Add a few pieces of sliced fresh mozzarella cheese to the bread, leaving room around the edges for the cheese to spread. Add the thinly sliced tomatoes.

Step 3: Place the pizza on a baking sheet or directly onto the oven rack and bake for 10-12 minutes until the cheese has melted.

Step 4: Carefully remove the pizza from the oven and drizzle it with olive oil. If desired, sprinkle with red pepper flakes.

Step 5: Garnish with torn fresh basil leaves or dried oregano and enjoy!

*Caution- Oven will be hot! Use oven mitts when placing and removing pizza from the oven.

Tips-

  • Top with sliced deli meat for added protein.
  • Dried oregano can be substituted for fresh basil.
  • Shredded mozzarella cheese can be substituted for fresh mozzarella cheese.
