Step 1: Melt butter in microwave and set aside. While butter is cooling, combine brown sugar, flour, cinnamon and nutmeg with a fork in a bowl. Pour in cooled butter and gently combine until crumbly. If it looks too wet or mushy, sprinkle in another 1-2 tablespoons of butter.
Step 2: Wash, peel and chop apples, discarding peel and core. Place apples in water with a bit of lemon juice, if desired, to keep them from browning before cooking. Drain water, if needed, then pour apples into slow cooker.
Step 3: Spread streusel topping over apples and cover. Cook on Low for 3-4 hours or High for 1-2 hours. Reduce heat to Keep Warm. Enjoy how amazing your house smells! Serve hot in bowls over ice cream or topped with whipped cream if desired. Yum!
Tips:
- Use caution when using slow cookers – they can be hot on the outside as well.
- Use lemon juice in water to keep apples from browning.
- 1 small snack size apple will yield about 1/2 cup of apples.
