- 5 cups apples (about 10 snack size or 6 large)
Streusel Topping:
- ½ cup butter (1 stick)
- ¾ cup light brown sugar
- 1 cup flour (plus more if needed)
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- ½ tsp nutmeg
- 1 pinch salt
Optional:
- whipped cream
- vanilla ice cream
Melt butter in microwave and set aside. While butter is cooling, combine brown sugar, flour, cinnamon and nutmeg with a fork in a bowl. Pour in cooled butter and gently combine until crumbly. If it looks too wet or mushy, sprinkle in another 1-2 tablespoons of butter.
Wash, peel and chop apples, discarding peel and core. Place apples in water with a bit of lemon juice, if desired, to keep them from browning before cooking. Drain water, if needed, then pour apples into slow cooker.
Spread streusel topping over apples and cover. Cook on Low for 3-4 hours or High for 1-2 hours. Reduce heat to Keep Warm. Enjoy how amazing your house smells! Serve hot in bowls over ice cream or topped with whipped cream if desired. Yum!
- Use caution when using slow cookers - they can be hot on the outside as well.
- Use lemon juice in water to keep apples from browning.
- 1 small snack size apple will yield about 1/2 cup of apples.
