Slow Cooker Cinnamon Streusel Apples

cinnamon streusel apples in a bowl topped with whipped cream
Fresh apples cook until tender in the slow cooker under a buttery brown sugar and cinnamon streusel topping. An easy fall apple dessert that's even better served warm with vanilla ice cream.

Equipment

  • 1 Slow cooker

Ingredients

  • 5 cups apples (about 10 snack size or 6 large)

Streusel Topping:

  • ½ cup butter (1 stick)
  • ¾ cup light brown sugar
  • 1 cup flour (plus more if needed)
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • ½ tsp nutmeg
  • 1 pinch salt

Optional:

  • whipped cream
  • vanilla ice cream

Instructions

  • Melt butter in microwave and set aside. While butter is cooling, combine brown sugar, flour, cinnamon and nutmeg with a fork in a bowl. Pour in cooled butter and gently combine until crumbly. If it looks too wet or mushy, sprinkle in another 1-2 tablespoons of flour.
  • Wash, peel and chop apples, discarding peel and core. Place apples into slow cooker.
  • Spread streusel topping over apples and cover. Cook on Low for 3-4 hours or High for 1-2 hours. Reduce heat to Keep Warm. Enjoy how amazing your house smells! Serve hot in bowls over ice cream or topped with whipped cream if desired. Yum!

Notes

The apples are done when fork-tender but still holding their shape. Slow cookers vary, so check them toward the end of the cooking time.
