Equipment

  • Donut molds

Ingredients

  • 1 box of spice cake mix
  • 21 oz apple pie filling & topping
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 Tbsp milk

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F. Add the apple pie filling to a food processor and blend until smooth. You can also mash it thoroughly with a fork. In a large bowl, use an electric mixer to combine the spice cake mix and puréed apple filling.
  • Generously coat two full-size silicone donut pans with nonstick cooking spray. Spoon or pipe the batter into the cavities, filling each one about ⅔ full.
  • Bake for 13-17 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of a donut comes out clean. Because ovens vary, begin checking the donuts before the end of the suggested baking time.
  • Let the donuts cool in the molds for 5–10 minutes before carefully removing them. Transfer them to a wire rack to finish cooling.
  • While the donuts cool, whisk the powdered sugar, milk and vanilla extract in a small bowl until smooth. Add a little more milk if needed to reach your preferred consistency. Dip or drizzle the glaze over the cooled donuts.

Notes

  • I used Duncan Hines apple pie filling and topping, but another brand should also work.
