Caprese Salad
A simple appetizer or side dish that is perfect to serve anytime of the year. This classic Italian dish that mirrors the colors of the Italian flag is made with fresh mozzarella, tomatoes, basil, olive oil and balsamic glaze, is sure to impress!

Equipment

  • sharp knife
  • platter or board

Ingredients

  • 3 ripe tomatoes sliced
  • 13 oz fresh mozzarella cheese sliced
  • fresh basil leaves
  • 1 tsp extra-virgin olive oil for drizzling
  • 1 tsp balsamic glaze for drizzling (optional)
  • salt and ground pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Slice tomatoes. Then arrange or layer the tomatoes, pre-sliced mozzarella cheese and basil leaves on a platter or board. Drizzle the olive oil, and sprinkle with salt and pepper. Drizzle the balsamic glaze just before serving or omit.

Notes

Variations and additional ingredients can be used for the salad.
  • pesto
  • sliced pears or peaches
  • mint leaves
  • avocado slices
  • balsamic vinegar or reduction instead of glaze can be used
